One fine day in Kibera

Anno’s One Fine Day in Kibera, Nairobi, is run by Krysteen Savane, and One Fine Day was founded by Marie Steinmann and Tom Tykwer. Long before the first Art Initiatives event in Ibiza, Johanna Driest was involved in helping them reach a milestone: the construction of the Anno’s One Fine Day Arts Centre, which finally provided a safe space for their activities. Every day, led by local teachers, the Centre gives children and young adults a place to dance, paint, do gymnastics, play music, act and much more. The spectrum of arts programmes is broad, far wider than we can show here.

What convinced us was watching what a daily practice of art does for a child’s confidence. The programme gives children and young adults the emotional and life-management tools to assert themselves with healthy self-esteem, so that they can tackle their lives independently and grow into healthy, contributing members of society.

Art Initiatives grew out of that experience. Johanna Driest founded it in 2024 and held the first event that October; encouraged by the response on the island, Art Initiatives became its own association in 2025. Through our exhibitions and benefit auctions we are proud to support this work every year, and to keep building partnerships around creativity, education and opportunity for children and young adults.
